Tragically recent events in the Valencia region have served to highlight the danger that comes from heavy rainfall in Spain and, as the climate continues to change, these risks only appear to increase.

Not only is flooding an issue that needs to be considered in terms of personal safety and damage to your property but, in some areas that are particularly susceptible to flooding it can be difficult, or even impossible to obtain mortgages or property insurance. The Spanish Government estimate that more than 2 million homes are at risk of flooding, highlighting the need to take this issue very seriously when considering the purchase of a property. 

Fortunately the Spanish Government have made lots of data available and it is relatively easy to check the flood risk of any given property. 

The map below shows all areas that present a food risk from a 10 year weather event (ie an event that can statistically be expected to occur once every ten years). 

Be aware that the darker the overlay, the more significant the danger to life.
